  • About "The Cool People"

THE COOL PEOPLE THE COOL PEOPLE THE COOL PEOPLE In 2014, Storm's signature figures came to fruition, and clients voiced them as "cool." As they evolved into a motif, their name was undeniable: The Cool People . Spirits around you, people in your head, or souls within you; they are whatever you want them to be. Each person is completely unique; never one like the other. As an ambidextrous painter, using the right hand for structure, and left hand for emotion, The Cool People are birthed. The figures often have emptiness within their bodies, representing unfulfilled qualities all humans share. The head lines are essential to their being, symbolizing divinity and reminiscent of chapeaus. Each one is unique, just like people are. Watch the origin video of The Cool People to see the organic nature of their creation. Classic black-and-white paintings of The Cool People on artisan paper and canvas are the artist's most popular custom order. Once framed, the works are an elegant addition to home decor. As developed main characters in the surrealist stories, the compositions are orchestrated by their soulful presence. As expressionistic storytellers, they stylistically evolve in detailed landscapes. The figures inherently embody strong feminine energy, but for the artist, The Cool People represent all people. Variations on The Cool People appear in Storm's work with the mimicking of foliage and mermaids to morphing into musical instruments and esoteric symbols. Whether they are dressed in lavish garb or as simple silhouettes, The Cool People are the lead actors in the productions. Originally the store was named, Graey Studio , but quickly re-named with the artist's authentic branding . Downstairs was the retail storefront and upstairs, a working production studio for fashion and artwork. With staff and interns, the storefront was known for it's vintage shopping experience and eccentric fashion style. Before the shop was opened, Storm designed textiles and garment patterns in bulk, all manufactured locally. Yards of textiles were digitally printed, based on her paintings and illustrations. Once the location launched, all garments were handmade upstairs with head seamstress, Jenny Lin. The artist continued to design for collection releases on a monthly basis. Painted fashion was another popular product, producing wearable art with original pieces, vintage, and on client's custom orders. Not only providing accessible street style, the studio provided pieces for stylists, stagewear, wardrobe departments, and theatrical costumes. Back to Storm Ritter Studio About Fashion Show View Textile Designs 2015 - 2019 ORIGINAL TEXTILE GARMENTS Storm Ritter Studio Before the opening of the storefront , the artist worked from her West Village home studio designing original textiles. All designs began as illustrations and paintings, evolving into large scale patterns. Fabric was digitally printed in large yardage in cotton, jersey, satin and linen blends. The textile patterns included classic t-shirts, blouses, halter tops, tank tops, bralettes, tube tops, dresses, bodysuits, skirts, pants, shorts, headbands, aprons, bags, hats and pet clothes. Unisex apparel was cerated for adults and children all in the production studio upstairs at Storm Ritter Studio with the prolific seamstress, Jenny Lin. Thousands of pieces were individually manufactured and exclusively sold in store. Vintage apparel was curated and altered with the original textiles as well. About The Collections The first collection of textile designs is inspired by Storm's fine art in 2014-15. The artist continued to photograph large paintings and details of canvases to use as the foundation of each textile concept. As the storefront interior design evolved, Storm drew inspiration from the painted apparel and murals to release new textiles monthly, including screen-printed apparel. Each garment is completely unique due to the lay of the pattern. If t-shirts were made of one textile design, the shirts all became individual works of art. Catering to custom fashion orders, the textiles were used for styling pulls, stage wear, and costumes, building a relationship with Mean Girls on Broadway . Documentation of the evolving collections resides in daily photos from the storefront.
